Finding Your God-Given Identity Again with Jen of Faith Rooted Habits

For the first episode of the Elevate Wellness Spotlight, I had the opportunity to sit down with Jen, the heart behind Faith Rooted Habits and host of The Rooted Podcast.

This conversation was a powerful reminder that sometimes the work we are called to do is born from the seasons we never expected to walk through. Jen shared how her journey began during a deeply personal season of becoming a full-time caregiver for her mother after an ALS diagnosis. In the middle of caring for everyone around her, she began to realize how easy it can be to lose yourself in responsibility, grief, motherhood, work, and the everyday demands of life.

What started with a simple daily walk, prayer, and time with God slowly grew into something much bigger. Through movement, faith, gratitude, and obedience, Jen began creating space not only for her own healing, but also for other women who needed the same reminder: you are worth taking care of, and your faith is worth making time for.

The Mission Behind Faith Rooted Habits

Jen’s work is centered around helping women, especially moms and working moms, put themselves back at the top of the to-do list in a God-centered way.

Her message is not about self-care for the sake of comfort alone. It is about seeking God first, reconnecting with your identity in Him, and allowing everything else in your life to come back into alignment from that place.

Many women come to her feeling overwhelmed, unworthy, short on time, or unsure of who they are beyond their titles. They may be a mom, wife, employee, caregiver, volunteer, or leader, but deep down they are asking a bigger question:

Who has God called me to be?

That question became one of the central themes of this conversation.

Overcoming the Lies That Hold Us Back

One of the most powerful parts of the interview was Jen’s honesty about the common struggles women face: feeling unworthy, feeling like they do not have enough time, and battling imposter syndrome.

So many people feel a tug toward something more — maybe starting a podcast, creating a ministry, leading a group, building a wellness business, or simply becoming more intentional with their faith — but then the doubts begin:

“I’m not ready.”
“I’m not qualified.”
“I don’t have time.”
“Who am I to do this?”

Jen reminds us that those thoughts often keep people stuck before they ever begin. Her encouragement was simple but powerful:

Do it anyway.

You do not need perfect conditions to start. You do not need everything figured out. You do not need the perfect setup, perfect schedule, perfect confidence, or perfect plan. Sometimes obedience starts with one small step.

Starting Small Still Matters

Jen shared how The Rooted Podcast grew from simple Instagram story “bench talks” after her workouts. What began as short, casual reflections eventually turned into something people wanted to revisit and save. After months of prayer and a confirming word from a coworker, Jen decided to start the podcast.

Her story is a reminder that meaningful work often starts small.

A post.
A walk.
A prayer.
A conversation.
A simple moment of obedience.

You may not know what it will become in the beginning, but when God places something on your heart, your responsibility is not to make it perfect. Your responsibility is to be faithful with the next step.

Gratitude as a Pathway Back to Joy

Toward the end of the conversation, Jen shared one of the biggest lessons she returns to often: gratitude.

Gratitude has a way of shifting our focus from everything that feels wrong to the ways God has still been present. It reminds us of the prayers He has answered, the strength He has given, the doors He has opened, and even the simple blessings we often overlook.

When doubt shows up, gratitude helps us remember how far God has already carried us.

For anyone feeling stuck, discouraged, overwhelmed, or unsure about their next step, this conversation is an encouragement to pause, reconnect with God, and begin again from a place of faith.

Final Thoughts

This interview with Jen was the perfect way to begin the Elevate Wellness Spotlight series because it captured the heart of what this series is all about: spotlighting people who are using their story, gifts, faith, and work to serve others.

Jen’s journey reminds us that purpose does not always arrive in a polished package. Sometimes it begins in pain. Sometimes it begins in a season of caregiving. Sometimes it begins when you feel like you have nothing left to give.

But when God is in it, even the small beginnings can grow into something meaningful.
